Cellulite: Do You Have an Orange Peel Butt?

Posted: Thursday, March 26, 2009

by Tracey Watson

I only buy a swimsuit every two years. Do you know why? The horror of looking in the mirror with the glaring overheard lights, in a tiny bathing suit, and worrying about my thighs and butt. Cellulite is a figure problem of most women whether they are larger or smaller. It can be attached to your thighs, hips, butt, and/or abdomen. There are ways to budge those bulges and make your body more streamlined, and I am here to help!

First, what exactly is cellulite? Fat trapped just below the skin, caught between the fibrous tissues that anchor your skin to deeper muscles. Fat cells expand and push around these fibrous cables and create that "orange-peel" effect. Women are much more susceptible than men to cellulite because of the higher fat percentage we have on our body and where we store it. Also, woman's skin tends to be thinner than man's; therefore the cellulite shows up more. So, what can be done?

One of the most effective ways, (and most expensive), is Vela. It is relatively new, and actually has scientific studies to back it up. It costs approximately $1,000 to $2,000 for four to six treatments, and follow up treatments are recommended for upkeep. The process uses heat, ultrasound, and massage all at the same time to work the cellulite into submission. I tried this (most places that offer it will let you sample what it is like) and it is uncomfortable. However, for serious cellulite, it truly is the best solution. But, since most of us don't want to spend THAT kind of money, I will move on to cheaper, easier, and certainly, more comfortable solutions.

What does not work?

My last comment to all of you is this; 90% of women have some cellulite. Yes, we hate it, but do not feel alone or like you have a horrible body because of it. Spend a little extra time working on it, and your "orange-butt" will be smooth as a "baby's butt"!

Hi Tracy, you did make me laugh with the orange-peel butt, BUT, once again, I learned some valuable information! By the waym, I have not purchased a bathing suite in over 5 years! No need for one in Oregon. Its way too cold :-)

Blessings to you!

Hi Teresa!  I am glad I brought a smile to your day.  You often bring one to mine when I read your articles.  Yes, Oregon doesn't exactly have bathing suit weather.  But there is always those indoor swimming areas?  Perhaps there is a little avoidance???  Hee Hee......  Have a great weekend, talk to you later.  Tracey  : )

ha!  I always say, if I can't swim in the waters of Hawaii, then why swim at all!  Okay, sounded good, bur avoidance is the better word :-)

Enjoy your day! Blessings to you! Teresa

Tracey a much cheaper and quicker remedy is to simply drink water. Though I know you mentioned it, the emphasis wasn't all on it.

From the web

"Drink lots of water.Drinking at least 8 glasses of water / day is one of the most important things you can do for your overall health : water helps the body to get rid of toxins ; toxins accumulation plays an important role in cellulite development so help your body detoxify and the cellulite will reduce accordingly."

Hi Swapna!  I am happy you enjoyed the article.  Although I can only see your face in your picture,  you are beautiful, and most definitely beautiful on the inside.  I like doing these articles to help women make the most of their appearance, but I try to always add that it is to enhance what you already have and to walk with confidence.  Whether you are bigger or smaller, younger or older, you can be beautiful by spending a few extra minutes taking care of yourself, and being a loving, caring person (and from your articles - I know your are!).  Have a great week!  Tracey  : )

You know what Tracey, for everything I rated FIVE except the last one, I rated ONE, Which says 'Didn't Do Anything for Me'. That is pretty obvious. The article came in Readers Club. So I need to read it which has an attractive title.

I am missing my wife after seeing the title: "Orange Peel Butt"...hahahaha That was so funny.

Hi Ronyae!  Good to hear from you....  but (oops, no pun intended), isn't it true about the appearance of cellulite?  Little, tiny, bumpy, annoying covering.  I am SURE if it weren't for that layer of cellulite, most of us would have "buns of steel"  --- they are just being covered by the orange peel!  Thanks for commenting, and have a great week!  Tracey  : )

Uh, I really dislike cellulite. The older I get the more it travels down my legs. Best way for me to reduce it is to lose weight or do A LOT of bicycling. Of course just covering it up works too!

Hi Val!  You bet that any aerobic exercise, bicycling included, is great.  But never feel like you need to cover up too much.  Distraction is a better method.  Wear something on the top, some type of accessory that draws the eye.  And always remember that most women deal with this, and most men don't even notice.  So, enjoy your time at the beach or pool!  Tracey  : )

Tracey, I am way past the swim-suit age, but since we have an in-ground pool, I can't stay out of it--it is also good for exercise for seniors. I just put on my most covering suit and don't worry about how I look. However, I do like some of your suggestions and may try them. Thanks for sharing.
